Effective: May 3, 2026
By downloading, installing, or using Rushi (如是, hereafter "the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. These Terms apply alongside the Privacy Policy.
Rushi is an iPhone and iPad application for reading Buddhist scripture, working a 108-bead mala, copying scripture, and playing meditation soundscapes. It provides the Diamond Sutra, the Heart Sutra, and their multi-language translations as a calligraphic reading experience; an interactive prayer-bead counter; a copy-practice canvas; and an offline soundscape mixer. All features run locally on your device and do not depend on any remote server.
Except where these Terms expressly say otherwise, the App is distributed through the Apple App Store and is therefore also governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement ("Apple Standard EULA"):
https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
Where these Terms conflict with the Apple Standard EULA, the term more favourable to you prevails. Provisions concerning Apple's own rights, responsibilities, and indemnities are governed by the Apple Standard EULA.
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App solely on Apple devices that you own or control, running iOS 17 or later, in accordance with these Terms.
You shall not:
The Markdown scripture files inside the open-source GitHub repository are released separately under CC0 1.0 (Public Domain Dedication); the redistribution restriction above does not apply to those files.
Every scripture passage in the App has been reviewed and verified as originating from a public-domain source edition:
Each passage is shown in the App with: source-edition name, translator, date, source URL, copyright status, and the basis for that status. If you believe a passage's copyright status is misstated, please contact us using the address below and we will investigate immediately.
The App bundles subsets of Noto
Serif CJK SC / TC, used and redistributed under the
SIL Open Font License 1.1. The
full LICENSE text is included in the App bundle at
Fonts/OFL-LICENSE.txt. All meditation soundscapes are
either public-domain or Creative Commons-licensed; complete attribution
is shown inside the App's "About" screen.
Anything you enter into the App — dedication notes, copy-practice strokes, bookmarks — belongs to you. We neither view nor are able to view this content; it is stored only inside the App's sandbox on your device.
The App is currently provided free of charge with no in-app purchases, subscriptions, paywalls, or advertising. We reserve the right to introduce a paid version, paid features, or a one-time purchase price in the future; any such change will be communicated clearly through an App update and within the App, and any features already available to existing users will be honoured at no additional cost where reasonable.
The App is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The App presents Buddhist scriptural content from recognised source editions; the developer makes no warranty or representation about any religious, philosophical, or practical interpretation thereof.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the App, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. In any event, the developer's total cumulative liability for the App shall not exceed the amount you paid to obtain the App (if the App was free, that amount is zero).
This licence terminates automatically if you breach these Terms; you may also terminate at any time by uninstalling the App. The "shall not" obligations in §4 and §§9–11 survive termination.
These Terms are governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (excluding its conflict-of-laws rules). Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall first be settled through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, the dispute shall be referred to and finally resolved by arbitration administered by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) under its rules then in force, in Hong Kong, in English and Chinese. Where you are a consumer, the foregoing arbitration clause does not deprive you of any non-waivable litigation rights granted by your local consumer-protection law.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will update the "Effective" date at the top and be announced prominently inside the App; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. All historical versions are accessible in the GitHub commit history.
This English text is the authoritative version of these Terms. Translations may be provided in the future for convenience but, where they differ, the English text controls.
